Top money tips when finishing school

Your job is to keep and grow your money while the world tries to take your money off you. Planning, consistency and discipline will help you with everything you want in life.

Do’s

  • Join KiwiSaver and be in the right fund for your age and circumstances.
  • Create and stick to financial goals – weekly, monthly and yearly. Review them all the time.
  • Create accounts for your goals and save money in these before you spend anything.
  • Use tools to help you – SortMe has a free version to help you watch your spending.
  • Always learn more about money and have a financial adviser.

Don’t’s

  • Borrow money to be happy today and sad tomorrow when you have to pay it back.
  • No credit cards, consumer loans or buy now, pay later.
  • Follow TikTok and Instagram for money advice – they don’t know your personal circumstances or goals.
  • Set goals that don’t allow you to spend some money to reward yourself.
  • Worry if you make a money mistake, work hard to fix it.
